Frequently Asked Questions

What terminology does ArtLog AI use?
ArtLog AI uses museum-standard conservation terminology. For paintings: craquelure, flaking, cupping, bloom, yellowing. For works on paper: foxing, toning, mat burn, cockling. For ceramics: crazing, flea bites, nibbles. For silver: hallmarks, plate wear-through. Every category has specialized vocabulary that matches professional auction house and conservation standards.
How accurate is the AI condition analysis?
ArtLog AI only describes condition issues it can actually see in photos. It does not assume or invent damage. When image quality prevents assessment of a specific area, it states "unable to assess from photograph." The AI defaults to one grade above what it observes, allowing the human expert to downgrade. Think of it as an expert first draft that you review and adjust.
Can I edit the AI-generated reports?
Yes, every report goes through a Review step where you can edit the condition description, adjust the condition grade, add or remove damage entries, add restoration notes, and add frame condition notes. The PDF is regenerated after your edits.
What photo quality do I need?
A modern smartphone camera is sufficient. The guided photo capture tells you exactly what to photograph. Quick mode needs just 3 photos (front, back, signature/marks), Standard mode uses 5-6 photos, and Detailed mode captures 8+ angles including raking light and damage details.
Do I need to sign up to try it?
No. You get 5 free item reports with no signup, no credit card, and no email required. Just open the app and start documenting.
Can I generate a catalog for an entire estate?
Yes. Each project can contain any number of items. You can generate individual PDFs for each item, or a batch Catalog PDF that includes a professional cover page, table of contents, condition grade summary, and individual entries for every item.
